REGIONAL OVERVIEWOF NUCLEAR SAFETY AND RADIATION PROTECTION T he Lyon division regulates nuclear safety, radiation protection and the transport of radioactive substances in the 12 départements of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Auvergne‑Rhône‑Alpes region In 2018, ASN carried out 337 inspections in the Auvergne‑Rhône‑Alpes region, comprising 116 inspections in theBugey, Saint‑Alban/Saint‑Maurice, Cruas‑Meysse and Tricastinnuclear power plants, 102 inspections inplants and installations undergoingdecommissioning, 109 inspections in small-scale nuclear activities and 10 inspections in the radioactive substance transport sector. ASN also carried out 47 days of labour inspections in the four nuclear power plants and on the Creys‑Malville site. It took part in 13 days ofmeetings on this theme, including its participation in the health, safety and working conditions committees. THE INSTALLATIONS AND ACTIVITIES TO REGULATE COMPRISE: ཛྷ ཛྷ 4 NPPs operated by EDF : ݸݸ Bugey (4 reactors of 900 MWe); ݸݸ Saint-Alban/Saint-Maurice (2 reactors of 1,300 MWe); ݸݸ Cruas‑Meysse (4 reactors of 900 MWe); ݸݸ Tricastin (4 reactors of 900 MWe); ཛྷ ཛྷ the nuclear fuel fabrication plants operated by Framatome in Romans‑sur‑Isère; ཛྷ ཛྷ the nuclear fuel cycle plants operated by Orano Cycle and its subsidiaries on the Tricastin industrial platform; ཛྷ ཛྷ the Operational Hot Unit at Tricastin (BCOT) operated by EDF; ཛྷ ཛྷ the High Flux Reactor operated by the Laue‑Langevin Institute in Grenoble; ཛྷ ཛྷ the Activated waste packaging and storage facility (Iceda) under construction on the Bugey nuclear site and the Bugey Inter-Regional Warehouse (MIR) for fuel storage operated by EDF; ཛྷ ཛྷ reactor 1 undergoing decommissioning at the Bugey NPP operated by EDF; ཛྷ ཛྷ the Superphénix reactor undergoing decommissioning at Creys‑Malville, and its auxiliary installations operated by EDF; ཛྷ ཛྷ the Ionisos irradiation facility in Dagneux; ཛྷ ཛྷ the nuclear fuel fabrication plant and pelletizing unit of SICN in Veurey‑Voroize, waiting to be delicensed; ཛྷ ཛྷ the CEA (French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission) reactors and plants in Grenoble, decommissioned and waiting to be delicensed; ཛྷ ཛྷ the CERN international research centre located on the Swiss-French border; ཛྷ ཛྷ small-scale nuclear activities in the medical sector: ݸݸ 22 external-beam radiotherapy departments; ݸݸ 6 brachytherapy departments; ݸݸ 23 nuclear medicine departments; ݸݸ about 150 centres carrying out fluoroscopy- guided interventional procedures; ݸݸ 120 computed tomography scanners; ݸݸ some 10,000 medical and dental radiology devices; ཛྷ ཛྷ small-scale nuclear activities in the veterinary, industrial and research sectors: ݸݸ one synchrotron; ݸݸ 700 veterinary structures (practices or clinics); ݸݸ about 30 industrial radiology agencies; ݸݸ about 600 users of ionising radiation in the industrial sector; ݸݸ about 100 research units; ཛྷ ཛྷ activities linked to the transport of radioactive substances; ཛྷ ཛྷ 3 head offices and 8 agencies of approved bodies. see p. 200 see p. 230 see p. 256 ASN report on the state of nuclear safety and radiation protection in France in 2018  27
