ASN Report 2018

6 —  Outlook The goal of ASN’s multi-year strategic plan is to reinforce the effectiveness of its actions in the field, notably by reinforcing the ability of the inspectors to detect deviations and by developing new inspection practices. Steps have been taken in this direction at the initiative of the ASN chief inspector. ASN also won a call for expressions of interest launched by the investing in the future programme, to trial artificial intelligence in public services. ASN’s project, called Siance – French acronym for System of artificial intelligence for nuclear regulation and assessment – will aim to utilise the data mined from more than 21,000 ASN inspection follow-up letters, to help the inspectors in their work. It more particularly aims to be able to automatically detect early warning signs and statistical trends by analysing inspection follow-up letters and to produce guidelines for the future inspection programmes with improved targeting of topics or items to be inspected. This tool will be developed in 2019 with the support of the Interministerial Directorate for Digital and Information System affairs.
